The Truth About the Truth - The World Is Desperate to Hear It

Romans 1:25, 2 Timothy 4:3-4, John 8:31-32

I. Desperate

a. The Truth About The Truth series...

b. The truth of Jesus Christ is the best news ever

c. The truth of Jesus Christ is is a portable gospel - it’s for the whole world

d. The truth of Jesus Christ can’t just be about us.

e. The world is utterly desperate for the truth of Jesus Christ.

f. This truth they seek...it isn't just a fact to agree with.

g. It's a person to hold onto - Jesus Christ.

II. The Trade

a. The world hasn't just lost the truth — it traded it away,

b. This trade has left people restless, confused, and desperate.

c. Perfect example - YouTube

d. Curated truth

e. We have access to more information than any generation in history,

f. We've never been more unsure what's actually true.

g. Information is not the same thing as truth.

h. Romans 1:25 "They exchanged the truth about God for a lie...”

i. They knew the truth and instead engaged in an active swap.

j. Truth got traded for something easier to live with.

III. The Symptom — why it feels like this right now

a. 2 Timothy 4:3-4

b. "Itching ears"

c. Paul doesn't say people run out of teachers, they accumulate them

d. Algorithms don't create this appetite, they just feed it.

e. The result - people are exhausted, desperate

IV. The Cure — what actually frees us

a. John 8:31-32

b. Freedom isn't the automatic result of hearing a fact — it's holding to Jesus' teaching.

c. Truth isn't information you agree with — it's a person you stay with,

d. Where is it in your life that you have been selecting your “truth” to suit yourself?

  • Midweek Bible Study - Wednesday 6pm - New Adult Bible Study - Formed: This nine-week series moves through eight classic spiritual disciplines, framed not as tasks to check off but as practices that God uses to reshape what we love. Each week follows the same structure: an opening question to get the group talking, a core theological anchor from Scripture, a teaching section that can be read aloud or taught freely, discussion questions, a practice to try during the week, and a closing prayer.
